Prescription Assistance Programs
Many people lack health insurance coverage and cannot afford the prescription medications and healthcare services that they need. More than 27 million people make less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level Guidelines and they do not have prescription coverage. The American pharmaceutical companies established the patient assistance programs to assist the low income uninsured individual to access the prescription medications that they need. Prescription Assistance Network of Stark County, Inc. will assist patients in enrolling in the pharmaceutical company programs. Each company has their own criteria for qualification and length of time that medications will be provided. The pharmaceutical company patient assistance programs offer access to prescription medications that treat a broad range of medical conditions.
The Prescription Assistance Network uses the Medbank RX Bridge Program to enroll patients into the pharmaceutical company programs. If a patient moves or changes providers within the network their information is readily available to the new provider so that refills, additional medications and changes may be processed easily.
The American pharmaceutical companies offer many free or low cost prescription medication programs for low income individuals and families that meet their eligibility guidelines. These programs are often times referred to as PAPs, MAPs or PPAP. You may review the formulary below to see if the medications that are prescribed to you are on a program or go to https://www.pparx.org or call 1-888-4PPA-Now (1-888-477-2669) to review the programs that are available and the eligibility criteria.
Prescription medication is available in either a brand name or a generic name. Most PAPs are for brand name drugs, but if the doctor does not specify DAW (dispense as written) the patient can take either the brand name form or the generic name form of the drug. Therefore a PAP can assist an individual that is taking either the brand or generic form of the drug. To review programs please see the attached link to medications and you may hook onto the first letter of the name of the drug that you are prescribed or you may scroll down through the entire list.
The Prescription Assistance Network will help individuals to research programs, assess eligibility and enroll in the prescription assistance programs. Please see the links of agencies and sites that provide this service.
