Q: What are the income guidelines to qualify for the PAP’s?
A: The majority of the PAP’s require income to be less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level to qualify or $20,420.00 annually for an individual and $27,380.00 annually for a couple. There are some programs that are below and a few that allow more.
Q: Can I have medical insurance?
A: Yes, you can have medical coverage but NO prescription coverage.
Q: What if I have high co-pays on my prescription coverage?
A: Unfortunately, you would not be eligible for the PAP’s.
Q: Who establishes the guidelines to qualify for PAP's?
A: Each pharmaceutical company establishes their own guidelines. Most are very similar, and SPAN must follow the guidelines set by that pharmaceutical company.
Q: How long does it take to receive prescription medications?
A: Once the applications are completed and taken to your physician with the proper documentation, they can then be faxed or mailed to the pharmaceutical companies. It will then take approximately two to six weeks to receive the medications.
Q: Can I get any over the counter medications?
A: No, over the counter medications are not available on the PAP’s.
Q: Are all prescription medications available on PAP’s?
A: No, but there are many brand name medications that are available.
Q: Is there a program where I can get my diabetic supplies?
A: Yes, there is: The Abbott Diabetes Patient Assistance Program will provide free monitors, strips and lancets to people who qualify. Abbott requires a denial letter from Medicaid dated within the last twelve months.
Q: Do I have to be a resident of Stark County to qualify?
A: Yes, to receive services through the Stark Prescription Assistance Network you must live in Stark County. You may contact your local United Way 211 and they will refer you to programs in your area.
Q: Do I or my doctor have to fill out a lot of paperwork?
A: With the information Prescription Assistance Network receives from you, we are able to complete the applications for you and your physician. This simplifies the process for both of you. Often you as well as your physician only have to sign the applications and the physician must provide a script for the medication(s).
Q: Do I have to provide proof of income?
A: Yes, in most cases the pharmaceutical companies require recent proof of income.
Q: Will the medication be mailed to my house?
A: That will depend on the pharmaceutical company. Some will mail them directly to the patient’s home and other pharmaceutical companies will only mail them to the physician’s office.
